Once upon a time, In a land far away A building made of white In a land made of hay. It was too cold to sleep It was too late to weep For the man and the woman waiting by the door, For the anxious parents came many times before Their eyes were so teary And their stares so eerie, Their hands in a clutch And their hearts in a rush. Glaring straight at the hospital door Their minds were crying together "Nevermore!" Their child was taken beyond that door And the two had nothing but God to implore. What a terrible fate! The child was born tiny! A failing heart, even though he was brainy. Tom Thumb had a birth defect ; A child the size of an insect! After hours and hours upon hours waiting A man clad in white came out the door wailing. "It's over" he sighed. It was as they dreaded. Both the man and woman knew where it was headed. For the tiny Tom Thumb Had a cardiac arrest. The doctors decided To put the boy to rest. It was hard for his parents to admit That in fact, they were just fine with it! With no disabled child in tow Both man and woman could finally grow! For the two kept living thereafter Finally... happily ever after!
